Atlantyk
Dzisiaj nad ranem (okolo godz. 6 czasu pokladowego) wiatr niespodziewanie zmienil kierunek. Nietypowo w tym rejonie Atlantyku, o tej porze roku (inaczej niż wyczytalismy to w nieomal wszystkich pomocach nawigacyjnych i meteorologicznych zgromadzonych na jachcie) wiatr zmienil się na poludniowy. Poczatkowo slaby, pozniej zaczal się nasilac do 5, nastepnie 6 i w koncu do 7 stopni w skali Buforta.
Od godz. 10 rano plynelismy już na pierwszym refie. Około poludnia, gdy wiatr w podmuchach przekraczal 30 wezlow, a cisnienie spadlo o dalsze 4 hPa w ciagu godziny, zaczelismy się przygotowywac do zalozenia drugiego refu i wtedy na horyzoncie, na naszym kursie zauwazylismy spora, rozjasniajaca się dziure w chmurach (do tej pory lalo przez wiekszosc czasu). Po pol godzinie dopynelismy w jej rejon i … wiatr raptownie się uspokoil, choc fale pozostaly nadal wysokie. Doszlismy do wniosku, ze wplynelismy w oko nizu, co potwierdzilo się kilka godzin pozniej. Wyplywajac z centrum tej niewielkiej depresji cisnienie zaczelo rosnac i wiatr zmienil się na polnocny, czyli zgodnie z naszymi hipotezami.
Ponieważ od 4 dni pozostajemy bez swiezych map pogodowych, skladajac dzisiaj telefonicznie Olce zyczenia (moja corka ma dzisiaj urodziny), poprosilem o przygotowanie (na podstawie internetu) trzydniowej prognozy dla tego rejonu. Jutro znow do niej zatelefonuje.
Wspomnialem o „czasie pokladowym”. Otoz wczoraj już poraz trzeci zmienilismy go, cofajac o godzine nasze zegarki. Robimy tak mijajac kolejne 15 stopni dlugosci geograficznej. W tej chwili nasz czas pokladowy rozni się o 4 godziny od czasu zachodnioeuropejskiego.

Dzisiaj od rana, po gwiezdzistej nocy zza chmur niesmialo wyglada slonce. Niestety wiatru jak na lekarstwo. Jeśli chodzi o prognozy pogodowe jestesmy już spokojniejsi. Otrzymalismy pomoc z Holandii. Dzieki szefowi Aleksandry wiemy już czego możemy się spodziewac przez nastepne kilka dni.
Wlasnie przed chwila na jedna z wedek Czarka zlapal się tunczyk i na pokladzie odbywa się walka…
Early this morning (around 6 a.m. “deck time”) the wind unexpectedly changed its direction. In a very unusual way for these parts of Atlantic and for this time of the year (different from what we could find in almost all of our various navigation and meteorology text books we have gathered on the boat) the wind shifted to southerly. Rather weak to begin with it grew in strength gradually from force 5 to 6 and then to 7 on the Beaufort scale. At 10 a.m. we took the first reef in. Around noon, when at times it was blowing more than 30 knots and the pressure dropped rapidly by further 4 hPa in an hour, and when we started to prepare for the second reef, we noticed on our course a large lighter hole in the clouds (so far it was poring quite a bit most of the time). When we reached this area in about half-an-hour…the wind suddenly died out although the waves remained high. We concluded that we must have sailed into the “eye” of the low pressure system which was confirmed a few hours later. As we were leaving this center point the pressure started to rise and the wind shifted to northerly as we had predicted.
As of the last 4 days we are unable to receive up to date weather forecasts I asked my daughter Aleksandra (I called to wish her a happy birthday) to get a 3 day forecast for this area from the internet. I’ll call her again tomorrow.
I mentioned the “deck time”. Yesterday for the 3rd time we reset our watches back by an hour. We do this as we cross each successive 15 degrees of longitude. At this point our “deck time” is 4 hours behind Central and Western Europe.

Since the morning, after the starry night, the sun has been shining shyly through the clouds. Unfortunately, there is barely any wind. We feel more comfortable now as far as weather forecasts are concerned. The help came from Holland. Thanks to Aleksandra’s boss, who as a sailor himself knows what information we need, we learned over our satellite phone what to expect over the next few days.
Just a moment ago one of Czarek’s fishing lines caught us a small tuna (bonito); there’s a battle on the deck…
Atlantique
Ce matin (vers 6h du matin heure locale, du bateau) le vent a soudainement change de direction. C’etait un vent inhabituel dans cette partie de l’Atlantique en cette saison, completement different de ce qui a ete dit a la meteo RFI ou ecrit dans les bouquins sur la meteo.de notre bibliotheque de bord – il soufllait du Sud. Faible pour commencer, puis de plus en plus fort : 5, 6 et enfin 7 Beaufort. A 10 heures nous avions deja pris un ris. Vers midi, lorsque le vent depassait 30 noeuds dans les rafales et la pression a encore chute de 4hPa en une heure, nous avons commence a se preparer pour prendre un deuxieme ris.. C’est alors que nous avons apercu a l’horizon, droit devant un gros trou dans les nuages (il avait beaucoup plu jusqu’a ce moment). Une demi heure plus tard nous sommes arrives en dessous et … le vent brusquement est tombe, tandis que les vagues restaient grosses. Nous sommes arrives a la conclusion que nous etions arrives dans l’oeil d’une petite depression, ce qui s’est confirme par la suite. En quittant le centre de cette mini depression la pression s’est remise a monter et le vent a vire Nord, conformement a notre hypothese.
Comme nous n’avions plus de cartes meteo depuis 4 jours, en telephonant a ma fille Alexandra pour lui souhaiter bon anniversaire, je lui ai demande de nous procurer les previsions meteo pour 3 jours a venir. Je la rappelerai demain pour cela.
J’ai parle de l’heure locale de bord : hier nous l’avons change pour la troisieme fois. On a recule nos montres d’une heure. Nous le faisons tous les 15 degres de longitude (ce qui correspond a 1h). En ce moment nous avons 4 heures de moins qu’en Europe occidentale.

Depuis ce matin, apres une nuit etoilee, le soleil est timidement sorti de derriere les nuages. Helas, le vent se fait desirer. En ce qui concerne les previsions meteo, nous sommes deja plus rassures : nous avons recu l’aide de Pays Bas. Grace au chef d’Alexandra nous savons deja a quoi nous attendre dans les prochains jours.
Juste a l’instant nous venons de prendre un thon avec une des cannes de Czarek et c’est la bataille a bord…

Martynika
Ponoc zawsze widok Ziemii ujrzanej na horyzoncie po dluzszym rejsie w pelnym morzu musi budzic ogromne podniecenie.
Takie tez bez watpienia odczuwamy w tej chwili.
Po dwoch tygodniach od wyplyniecia z Cape Verde widzimy na horyzoncie zamglone, samotne, skaliste wysepki. Mimo posepnego krajobrazu to jednak staly lad! To mala wyspa Mustique (wyspa miliarderow i monarchow). Ale ani nam w glowie proba zawiniecia do tamtejszego portu. Uparcie dazymy do wczesniej wyznaczonego sobie celu – Martyniki.
Trzy tygodnie temu wyplynelismy z Puerto de Mogan (na Wyspach Kanaryjskich). Do mycia się po 2 lirty slodkiej wody na glowe dziennie (naczynia i pranie tylko w slonej wodzie), spanie w rozhustanej kabinie, picie z metalowego garnuszka trzymanego miedzy kolanami – to wszystko niby uciazliwe, ale czujemy się wspaniale! Zrobilismy to!!! Jestesmy po drugiej stronie Atlantyku!!! Przychodzi nam do glowy okreslenie: „Kolumbowie rocznik 56” (i 63).
Martinique
They say that the first land seen after a long open sea voyage must be one of the most exciting views and, indeed, this is how we’re feeling right now. Two weeks after we left Cape Verde we spot on the horizon foggy shapes of some small, isolated, rocky islands. No matter it’s a rather gray, plain vista – this is a solid land after all! It turns out to be the Mustique Island (an island of billionaires and monarchs). But we’re not even thinking about stopping there. We’re moving steadily towards our chosen destination of Martinique.
It’s been three weeks since we left Puerto de Mogan on Canary Islands. We’ve each had 2 liters of fresh water a day to wash ourselves (washing dishes and clothes in salt water only), we’ve been sleeping in constantly swinging cabins, drinking out of metal cups held between the knees – all of which rather uncomfortable – yet, we’re happy nonetheless! We’ve done it!!! We are on the other side of Atlantic!!! We can call ourselves the “Columbus’ of the year ‘56” (and ’63).
Martinique
A ce qui parait, la vue d’une Terre apercue a l’horizon apres une longue croisiere sucite une tres grande excitation.
C’est sans aucun doute ce que nous ressentons en ce moment.
Deux semaines après avoir quitte Les Iles du Cap Vert nous apercevons a l’horizon, dans la brume, les petites iles, abruptes et rocheuses. Malgre ce paysage severe, c’est tout de meme la terre ferme ! C’est Mustique (l’ile des miliardaires et des altesses). Mais nous n’avons aucune intention de nous arreter la. Et nous puorsuivons fermement notre destination – la Martiniqu.
Trois semaines auparavent nous avons quitte Puerto de Mogan (Les Canaries). 2 litres d’eau par jour pour se laver (la vaisselle et la lessive a l’eau de mer uniquement), les nuits dans une cabine qui se balance, les repas dans une gamelle tenue entre les jambs – tout cela semble penible, mais nous sommes heureux ! Nous l’avons fait !!! Nous sommes de l’autre cote de l’Atlantique !!! Nous pensons a l’expression : les Columbs des annees 56 (et 63).

Le Marin, Martynika
Od dwoch dni stapamy po twardym, stabilnym ladzie. Jestesmy zajeci calym mnostwem spraw zwiazanych z jachtem. Organizacja wiekszych i mniejszych napraw, znalezienie odpowiedniego miejsca w porcie na dluzszy postoj Wratislavii, sprzatanie, pranie… powolny powrot do bardziej normalnego, ladowego rytmu zycia.
Za kilka dni będziemy znow w domach na swieta Bozego Narodzenia, zobaczymy się z bliskimi, z przyjaciolmi i znajomymi.
Ale polknelismy bakcyla wielkiego zeglowania na tyle gleboko, ze już tesknimy do kolejnego, trzeciego etapu naszego rejsu.
W wlasnie zakonczonym, drugim etapie, w trakcie 25 dni przebylismy 3285 mil morskich, a od poczatku rejsu z Hendaye (z Francji) 4897 Mm (ponad 9 000 km). Ogromna meska frajda!!!
A wszystko to dzieki odwaznemu pomyslowi Wojtka, który zrodzil się w jego glowie prawdopodobnie okolo rok temu, chociaz musial kielkowac w niej juz duzo wczesniej. Dzieki Czarkowi, najbardziej doswiadczonemu z nas zeglarzowi, czulismy się bezpieczniej we wszystkich trudniejszych momentach, a w tych latwiejszych na pewno bardziej komfortowo, zwlaszcza jeśli chodzi o kulinarna strone naszego przedsiewziecia.
W trakcie tych dni nauczylismy się calkiem sporo. Przede wszystkim o oceanicznym zeglowaniu, nawigacji i meteorologii. Wojtek z Czarkiem doskonalili swój francuski i angielski… Ja tez nauczylem się zamawiac co bardziej wyszukane desery w jezyku francuskim. Np: Quatre coquetiers rouges avec les airelles brulees. Sprobowalem już w kilku restauracjach…
Rozpoczecie trzeciego etapu wielkiej przygody planujemy za około 4 miesiace (prawdopodobna trase naszego powrotu do Europy zaznaczylem na mapie przerywana linia).
Dziękujemy wszystkim zyczliwym „kibicom” odwiedzajacym nasza strone www i piszacym mile, podbudowujace nas maile. Obiecujemy wznowic relacje z naszej podrozy w okolicach polowy kwietnia, a pojawic się ponownie, tym razem na dluzej we Wroclawiu w czerwcu 2008.
Podziekowania naleza się Robertowi, za wytrwale administrowanie nasza strona internetowa, mimo wielu problemow technicznych wyniklych po drodze.

We’ve been walking on the solid ground for two days now. We’re busy getting a multitude of things organized for the boat. Managing all kinds of various, small and more serious repairs, trying to secure a berth in the marina for a longer stay of Wratislavia here (not so easy), cleaning, washing, etc….a slow return to a more normal, land based rhythm of life.
In a few days we will be home for Christmas, we’ll be seeing our family and friends. But we have developed such a taste for ocean sailing that we are already longing for the third phase of our journey.
During the 25 days of the one we have just finished, we’ve covered 3,285 nautical miles, and from the beginning in Hendaye in France – 4,897 nM (more than 9,000 kilometers). A huge thrilling male adventure!!!
And all of it thanks to a courageous idea that crystalized in Wojtek’s mind probably a year ago or so, although it must have been seeded there a lot earlier. Thanks to Czarek, in turn, the most experienced sailor among the three of us, we felt safer during the tougher moments and more comfortable during the easier ones, especially as far as the culinary aspects of our voyage were concerned.
We also learned quite a bit during these days. About ocean sailing, navigation techniques and meteorology first of all. But in addition, Wojtek and Czarek were polishing their French and English, respectively, and for myself, I learned how to order some more sophisticated desserts in French, e.g.,: “Quatre coquetiers rouges avec les airelles brulees”. I’ve tried it on waiters in several restaurants already…
We are planning to start the third part of our great adventure in about 4 months (we have marked our likely route on the map by the dotted line).
We would like to thank everyone who’s cheered us so far, visited our website and/or wrote supporting mails. We promise to restart our reports around middle of April. We will show up in Wroclaw for a longer bit of time in June 2008.
Also, many thanks to Robert who managed our website facing a lot of technical problems along the way.

Depuis deux jours nous marchons sur la terre ferme. Nous sommes occupes a regler une multitude d’affaires concernants le bateau. Il faut organizer les petites et grandes reparations, trouver une place adequate dans la marina pour un sejour prolonge de Wratislavia, le nettoyage, la lessive… Bref, un retour en douceur vers une vie de terrien. Dans quelques jours nous serons de retour dans nos foyers pour les fetes de Noel, on reverra nos proches, nos amis, nos familles.
Mais nous avons ete mordus par la passion de la navigation hauturiere, si bien que nous attendons avec impatience l’etape suivante.
Dans l’etape qui vient de s’achever nous avons parcourus 3285 milles nautiques en 25 jours. Et depuis le debut de notre voyage, de Hendaye 4897 Mn (plus de 9000kms). Grosse satisfaction masculine !!!
Tout cela grace a l’idee courageuse de Wojtek qui l’a eu il y a environ un an. Mais l’idee a du germer encore plus tot. Grace a Czarek, le navigateur le plus experimemte de nous tous, nous nous sentions plus en securite dans des moments plus difficiles et plus confortablement, surtout en ce qui concerne la partie culinaire.
Durant ces derniers jours nous avons appris pas mal de choses. Surtout sur la navigation oceanique et la meteo. Wojtek et Czarek ont perfectionne leur francais et anglais. Moi meme j’ai appris comment commander des mets recherches en francais, par ex. Quatre coquetiers rouges avec les airelles brulees. J’ai deja teste dans plusieurs restos…
Nous envisageons de commencer la troisieme etape de notre grande aventure dans 4 mois (le trajet prevu est marque sur la carte en pointille).
Nous remercions tous nos fideles “spectateurs” visitant notre pagewww qui nous ecrivent gentiment des mails sympas. Nous promettons de renouveller nos articles mi avril, puis nous nous retrouverons a Wroclaw en juin 2008.

Rozpoczynamy trzeci etap naszego rejsu!
Jutro wypływamy! Przynajmniej mamy taki szczery zamiar.
W zasadzie cała aprowizacja jachtu na kilka tygodni już zrobiona. Mamy jedynie problem z napełnieniem butli gazowej. Na całej St. Maarten, ani po francuskiej, ani po holenderskiej stronie nie potrafią nam pomóc. Może za tydzień… Najwyżej będziemy żywić się zimnymi konserwami…
W każdym razie wysialiśmy już nasiona rzeżuchy. Ma to nas uchronić przed szkorbutem… J
Przez ostatnie dwa tygodnie żeglowaliśmy w czwórkę z Basią i Kasią. Odwiedzając nieomal wszystkie porty na Brytyjskich Wyspach Dziewiczych (B.V.I.).
Doświadczyliśmy i upalnego słońca, mocniejszego wiatru i również burz z deszczem i piorunami… Odwiedzaliśmy i eleganckie restauracje i portowe tawerny. Popijaliśmy różne, wcześniej nieznane nam koktajle. Były to naprawdę wspaniałe, relaksujące wakacje. Dziewczyny są w tej chwili w drodze do Wrocławia (gdzieś nad Atlantykiem). Ich podróż będzie w sumie trwała nieomal 40 godzin w tym 8 startów i tyleż lądowań.
Wcześniej Wratislavia też nie próżnowała. Kasia i Wojtek krążyli po wyspach Karaibskich z rodziną i znajomymi. W sumie od zakończenia poprzedniego etapu naszego rejsu na Martynice, Wratislavia przepłynęła blisko 1 000 mil.
Przed chwilą zciągnęliśmy z internetu świeżą prognozę pogody. Jest nie do końca taka, jakiej oczekiwaliśmy. Zamiast stabilnego Wyżu Atlantyckiego, przez najbliższy tydzień po środkowym Atlantyku będą krążyły same niże. Nie ma mowy o płynięciu od razu na północ. Wszystko wskazuje na to, że będziemy musieli ominąć Bermudy i skierować się bardziej południową drogą wprost na Azory.
Tam też najprawdopodobniej dopiero będziemy mięli dostęp do internetu, a droga ta zajmie nam około 3 tygodni.
W międzyczasie będziemy starać się wysyłać naszą pozycję i krótkie komunikaty SMS-ami satelitarnymi.
Jeszcze wciąż Karaibskie pozdrowienia dla wszystkich, którzy zajrzą na tę stronę.

We are commencing the third phase of our journey!
We’re sailing off tomorrow! At least that’s our honest intent.
So far, basically all supplies for a few weeks ahead have been loaded onto the boat. One thing which is left undone, though, is the cooking gas. We cannot find it in all of St. Martin, neither on the French nor the Dutch side. Maybe in a week’s time…If worse comes to the worst, we’ll be eating a lot of cold canned food…In any case, we have planted some seeds of lentil which should save us from the scurvy… J
Over the last two weeks the four of us (Krzysiek and Wojtek with Kasia and Basia) have been sailing through almost all of the ports of the British Virgin Islands (B.V.I.).
We have experienced scorching sun and strong winds as well as storms with rain and thunders…We’ve been to fancy restaurants and port pubs. We’ve been drinking all kinds of new cocktails. These were really wonderful and relaxing holidays. The girls are on their way back to Wroclaw right now somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean. Their trip will take them almost 40 hours, including 8 take-offs and as many touch-downs.
Earlier Wratislavia was not sitting idle either. Kasia and Wojtek were sailing around all of Caribbean islands with family and friends. All in all, since the last phase of our journey ended on Martinique, Wratislavia covered close to 1,000 nautical miles.
Just a moment ago we received, over the internet, the latest weather forecast It is not quite what we’d been expecting. Instead of a stable, large high pressure system, over the next week or so central Atlantic will see a lot of low pressure areas. There is no way we’ll be able to sail north which means we’ll have to skip Bermuda and head more South, directly for the Azores. Which is where, most likely, we’ll have our next real internet access. It will probably take us about 3 weeks to get there. In the meantime we’ll try to send our positions and short messages via satellite SMS’s.

On commence la troisieme etape de notre croisiere !
On part demain. Du moins, telle est notre sincere intention.
En fait, tous les appros sont deja faits pour plusieures semaines de navigation. Le seul probleme que nous avons c`est de faire remplir notre bouteille de gaz. Sur toute
l`ile, aussi bien du cote francais que hollandais personne ne peut nous aider pour cela. Peut-etre dans une semaine… Au pire on va manger des boites de conserve froides…
En tout cas, on a deja seme les pousses des lentilles. Ca doit nous proteger du scorbut…
Durant ces deux dernieres semaines on a navigue tous les quatre avec Basia et Kasia. Nous avons ete dans Presque tous les ports des British Virgin Islands.
Nous avons eu aussi bien du soleil brulant que du vent fort et des orages… Nous avons ete dans des restaurants elegants aussi bien que des tavernes. Nous avons deguste des coctails inconnus et divers. Ce fut des vacances reellement magnifiques et reposantes.
Nos femmes sont en ce moment en route pour Wroclaw (quelque part au dessus de l`Atlantique). Leur voyage va durer Presque 40 heures, y compris 8 decollages et atterissages. Plus tot Wratislavia n`a pas chaume non plus. Kasia et Wojtek ont circule dans les Caraibes avec la famille et des amis. Au total, depuis notre arrivee en Martinique, Wratislavia a fait pres de 1000 milles.
A l`instant, on a eu par internet les previsions meteo les plus fraiches. Ce n`est pas exactement ce que l`on esperait. A la place du gros Anticyclone au milieu de l`Atlantique, il n`y a que des depressions pendant la semaine qui vient. Plus question de naviguer directement au Nord. Tout porte a croire que nous serons obliges d`eviter les Bermudes et aller directement aux Azores.
Et c`est probablement seulement la bas que nous aurons l`acces a l`internet, et il nous faudra 2 a 3 semaines.
Entretemps nous allons essayer d`envoyer notre position et quelques mots par sms satellitaires.

Wypłynęliśmy z St. Maarten 3 dni temu (2 maja) o godzinie 12, nieomal w samo południe.
Dzień. 1 – żeglujemy na Północ z pomyślnymi wiatrami, trochę fal, sporo słońca (wszystko bardzo sprzyjające Wojtka 52 urodzinom). Dwie ogromne ryby złapane na Czarka wędkę (niestety za duże jak na nią). Urywały się kolejno po krótkiej walce, przegryzając stalowa linkę i zabierając ze sobą cenne dwie przynęty wraz z najlepszymi hakami.
Dzień 2 – wciąż na północ z silnym wiatrem (założony pierwszy ref). Fale naprawdę budzą respekt. Całkiem sporo deszczu. Dużo mniej przyjemnie niż wczoraj.
Dzień 3 – próbujemy żeglować na północ i wschód w poszukiwaniu sprzyjających wiatrów. Kilka godzin na silniku (mimo świadomości konieczności oszczędzania paliwa z uwagi na konieczność codziennego ładowanie akumulatorów).
AWARIA: tracimy nasz podstawowy system nawigacyjny (centralny GPS/Radar). Czyżby szok elektryczny? Wracamy wiec do podstaw: naszego ręcznego sprzętu i papierowych map.
Nous avons quitte St Martin il y a 3 jours (le 2 Mai) a 12h.
1er jour - nous naviguons vers le Nord avec un vent favorable, un peu de vagues et beaucoup de soleil (tout cela tres agreable pour les 52 ans de Wojtek). Deux gros poisons ont mordu, tour a tour, a la ligne de peche de Tcharek (helas pas assez solide pour du si gros). L`un après l`autre se sont liberes après une lutte assez breve, en cassant le bas de ligne en acier et en emportant 2 meilleurs leurres.
2e jour – le cap toujours au Nord avec du vent fort (un ris dans la grand-voile). Les vagues sont majestueuses. Pas mal de pluie. Conditions bien moins agreables que la veille.
3e jour – nous essayons le cap tantot au Nord, tantot a l`Est dans la recherche d`un vent favorable. Quelques heures de moteur (malgre le fait de devoir economiser le gasoil pour la recharge quotidienne des battries).
Notre traceur des cartes, GPS, radar tombe en panne, probablement victime d`une surcharge electrique (?). Nous voila donc obliges de reprendre les bases : nos GPS portables et les cartes en papier.

Day 1 – heading due North with good winds, some waves, lots of sun (very fit for Wojtek’s 52nd birthday). Also, 2 huge mahi-mahi caught but lost after a brief fight (too big for Czarek’s gear) together with 2 of Czarek’s best baits.
Day 2 – still North with strong winds (1 reef), sizeable waves and lots of rain – much less fun than day 1.
Day 3 – trying North and East to find some favorable winds. Lots of motor, lots of sun; lost our main GPS/Radar/Navigation system (electrical surge?) so back to basics from now on.

5-ty dzień żeglugi. 600 Mm za nami. Trochę sztormu, trochę flauty. Szukamy stabilnego wiatru, który zabierze nas na Azory.
