Dzień 9 – w końcu po 2 dniach od rozpoczęcia się posztormowej ciszy wiatr wzrósł do 4 – 5 stopni, co pozwala nam na żeglugę pod genakerem z prędkością około 7 węzłów. Czujemy się znacznie lepiej, zwłaszcza ze spaliśmy dobrze i obudziliśmy się mając wokół pogodny, słoneczny poranek.
Wczoraj nasza samotność w tej nieuczęszczanej części Atlantyku (po przepłynięciu 1350 Mm jesteśmy znów na jego środku) przerwał pierwszy od dawna radiowy kontakt z innym jachtem. To Swan 100 z Newport zmierzający podobnie jak my – na Azory. Później chcą popłynąć przez Gibraltar, Majorkę aż do Turcji. Rozmawialiśmy kilkakrotnie, dzieląc się przeróżnymi informacjami o naszych jachtach (ich robił większe wrażenie), o załogach (nasza wydawała się nam bardziej interesująca) i prognozami pogody. Po około 24 godzinach strąciliśmy łączność (robili 9 węzłów, podczas gdy my jedynie 5,5).
Pustkę wypełniło nam spotkanie z całym stadem wielorybów, które pozwoliło podpłynąć do siebie na odległość kilkunastu metrów. Była to okazja dla mnie do nakręcenia co najmniej paru niepowtarzalnych ujęć.

9e jour – enfin, apres 2 jours de calme et de petole post-tempete, le vent est de retour. Il souffle a 4 – 5 Beaufort ce qui nous permet d`avancer a plus de 7 noeuds. Nous nous sentons bien mieux, surtout après une bonne nuit et par cette belle matinee ensoleillee. Apres avoir parcouru 1350 milles nous revoila au milieu de l`Atlantique. Hier notre solitude dans cette partie deserte de l`Atlantique a ete interrompu par un contact radio avec un autre voilier. Ce fut un Swan 100 de Newport allant comme nous aux Acores puis via Gibraltar, la Majorque et la Turquie. Nous avons communiqué plusieures fois en echangeant des diverses informations concernant nos navires respectifs (le leur etant presque 2 fois plus grand), nos equipages et les previsions meteo. Nous avons perdu la liaison 24h plus tard (ils allaient a 9 nds tandis que nous seulement a 5,5). Ce vide a ete vite comble par tout un banc de cachalots qui nous ont permis de les approcher a quelques metres. Ce fut une belle occasion de prendre quelques belles prises avec notre camera.

Day 9 – finally, after 2 days of an after-storm calm with zero wind and lots of motoring, the winds have picked up as of 4 a.m. Sunday morning, and we’re traveling again under our gennaker at around 7 knots with 4 – 5 Beaufort force SW breeze; feels much better especially that we slept well and woke up to a bright, sunny day. Yesterday our loneliness in these seemingly un-traveled parts of Atlantic (we’re right in the middle of it after 1350 nm, just like on our way over last November) was broken by the first contact, since the French yacht from La Rochelle, with another yacht (if only by the VHF radio): a Swan 100 from Newport, Rhode Island, heading for the Azores, like us, and then through Gibraltar, Majorca to Turkey. We spoke several times, shared information regarding our boats (theirs, alas, was much more impressive), crews (we think ours was much more interesting) and the weather. After 24 hours or so they passed us (making 9 knots on motor compared to our meager 5.5) and moved on beyond the VHF reach. Perhaps to fill the gap, a group of several huge whales appeared and stuck around for quite a while which gave Krzysztof a good opportunity to do some expert camera work.
