Nasz pobyt w Horta trwał w sumie 3 dni. Połowę pierwszego (poniedziałek 19 maja) przeznaczyliśmy na odpoczynek i świętowanie naszego powrotu na stały ląd. Następnego: odpoczywaliśmy po naszym świętowaniu… W końcu w środę (trochę zawstydzeni naszym nieróbstwem), wstaliśmy wcześnie pełni szczerych intencji załatwienia całej aprowizacji, dokonania potrzebnych napraw etc. Jednak pierwszą rzeczą jaka nas spotkała rano, to mocne przeżycie: “uma revisao completa” (pełna inspekcja) przeprowadzona przez portugalskich celników. Około tuzina mężczyzn przez ponad dwie godziny przeszukiwało jacht, zaglądając gdzie się tylko da (nie wyłączając rozkręcania pokryw zbiorników z wodą, paliwem, wszelkich zakamarków pod silnikiem i pod podłogą). Nic oczywiście nie znaleźli, ale zmarnowali kilka godzin naszego cennego czasu, nie mówiąc już o niepotrzebnych nerwach i stresie.
W rezultacie musieliśmy mocno skompresować nasze plany na popołudnie, które zawierało i tak już wcześniej zaplanowaną, obowiązkową wizytę w muzeum wielorybnictwa. Czwartek (21 maja) przyniósł znów piękną pogodę i bez problemu dokończyliśmy wszystkie niezbędne naprawy (fał spinakera, roler genakera, odsalarka, gniazdko zewnętrznego radia), pozostawiając te poważniejsze, niemożliwe do wykonania we własnym zakresie, do czasu powrotu do Hendaye (centralny system nawigacji, radar, wózek szotów foka). Umyliśmy pokład i wybraliśmy się pożyczonym samochodem na wycieczkę dookoła wyspy. Faial to powulkaniczna, górzysta, bardzo czysta wyspa, z zapierającymi dech widokami i niewiarygodnie bogatą florą. Ponieważ w czwartek przypadało święto Bożego Ciała, tradycyjne procesje odświętnie ubranych mieszkańców mijanych miasteczek nadały wyjątkowy nastrój naszej krótkiej wizycie. Zgodnie z dobrą, transatlantycką tradycją, zostawiliśmy namalowaną na falochronie naszą wizytówkę.
Wypłynęliśmy z Horty o godzinie 8 wieczorem. Wszystko zapowiadało się wspaniale. Zachodzące słońce, średni wiatr z korzystnego kierunku, ale po kilku godzinach przestał działać nam autopilot (tzw. samoster). Prawdopodobnie znów jakaś elektroniczna awaria. Wygląda więc na to, że nasze samotne, 3 – godzinne wachty będą zdecydowanie mniej komfortowe. Około 8;30 rano w piątek wpłynęliśmy do mariny d’Angra w Angra do Heroismo na wyspie Terceira. Planujemy krótkie zwiedzanie, być może zjedzenie trochę świeżego, czerwonego mięsa wieczorem, i wypłynięcie jutro przed południem (sobota, 24 maja), już w kierunku Europy. Mamy stąd około 900 Mm do wybrzeży Portugalii i następne 400 Mm do macierzystego portu. Zapewne upłynie co najmniej tydzień, aż będziemy mięli dostęp do internetu. W międzyczasie wrócimy do krótkich, satelitarnych SMS-ów.

Nous sommes restes a Horta 3 jours et demi. La premiere demi journee après notre arrivee, le lundi 19 Mai, nous nous sommes reposes puis nous avons fete notre retour sur la terre ferme. Le jour suivant nous avons du recuperer après nos festivities. Le mercredi matin, peut etre un peu honteux de n`avoir rien fait la veille, nous nous sommes leves avec les sinceres intentions d`attaquer les travaux. Malheureusement avant meme notre petit dejeuner les douanes portuguaises nous sont tombes dessus : “uma revisao completa” (inspection complete) ! Au moins une douzaine d`officiers sont venu a bord pour tout fouiller, y compris sonder les reservoirs de gasoil et d`eau, devisser tout ce qu`ils pouvaient… Biensur ils n`ont rien trouve mais nous avons perdu quelques heures (et les nerfs) de notre temps precieux et nous avons du le rattraper, en visitant le Musee de la Balaine puis, en nous occupant enfin des reparations, des approvisionnements etc. Le jeudi 21 fut une tres belle journee, bien ensoleillee. Alors nous avons fini vite le reste des reparations (la drisse du spinnaker, l`enrouleur du genneker, le dessalinisateur, la prise exterieure de la VHF) en en laissant d`autres, plus difficiles pour notre retour a Hendaye (le traceur des cartes/GPS/radar, le systeme du foc automatique, la revision des voiles). Puis nous avons lave le bateau et sommes partis faire le tour de l`ile en voiture de location en visitant beaucoup d`endroits magnifiques. Faial est une ile tres propre et jolie avec des panoramas a couper le souffle et une flore riche et tres verte. C`etait aussi le jour de Corpus Christi, fete religieuse avec ses processions et des gens en habits de dimanche dans beaucoup de villages. Ce fut une tres belle, bien que courte excursion !
Conformement a la tradition locale nous avons laisse notre “carte de visite” sur le mur de la Marina (les couleurs de la Pologne et nos prenoms).
Nous avons quitte Horta le meme jour a 20h. Le debut de navigation fut magnifique : les couleurs du soleil couchant, bon vent, mais quelques heures plus tard notre Pilote Automatique a lache (probablement une autre carte electronique grillee). Il faut donc nous resigner a barrer manuellement a partir de maintenant (beaucoup moins confortables, particulierement pendant les quarts de nuits de 3 heures).
Nous sommes arrives dans la Marina d`Angra do Heroismo sur l`ile de Terceira a 8h30 du matin, vendredi. Nous projetons de faire un tour de l`ile, peut-etre manger encore de la viande rouge bien fraiche pour le dinner de ce soir et reprendre la mer demain, samedi (24 Mai). Nous avons a peu pres 900 miles a parcourir d`ici jusqu`a la cote portugaise, puis 400 Nm de plus pour rejoindre notre port d`attache. Cela va nous prendre plus d`une semaine de navigation. Entretemps nous allons envoyer quelques nouvelles par SMS satellite.

We stayed at Horta for three-and-a-half days. The first half after our arrival on Monday (May 19) we rested and celebrated being back on dry land. The next day we were recovering from celebrations. Then, on Wednesday, perhaps a bit ashamed of our laziness the day before, we woke up with sincere intentions to get real busy with all the necessary repairs, provisioning, etc. Unfortunately, first thing in the morning we got hit with “uma revisao completa” (a full inspection) by Portuguese customs officers. At least a dozen of them, all parts of the boat searched, including opening and fishing in the fuel and water tanks, unscrewing the shelves, etc. They found nothing, of course, but wasted several of our precious hours (and some of our nerves) in the process. As a result we had to squeeze all the work into the afternoon …and that including a compulsory visit to the whaling museum first. Thursday (May 21) turned out to be a very sunny, beautiful day so we finished all possible repairs (spinnaker halliard, gennaker furling line, fresh water maker, external VHF socket), leaving the impossible ones till after our return to Hendaye (central GPS/radar/navigation system, jib’s self tacking gear, sail repairs), washed the boat and drove around the island for a very enjoyable sight-seeing tour. Faial proved to be a clean, lovely place with breathtaking vistas and rich, very green flora. It was a Corpus Christi Thursday so processions of dressed-up locals in many small towns and their holiday spirit added to our interesting, if rather short, visit. After it, following good Transat traditions, we painted a “murale” on the stone water-break memorizing Wratislavia’s, and ours, stay at the marina. We sailed off from Horta at 8 p.m. The start was great with sun and good winds but after a couple of hours our Autopilot failed (probably yet another electronic card) so it looks like we’ll be doing a lot of hand steering from now on (much less comfortable especially during the lonely, 3-hour long night watches). We arrived at Marina d’Angra at Angra do Heroismo on Terceira Island at 8:30 Friday morning. We’re planning to do some sight-seeing, perhaps have some more fresh red meet for dinner tonight and head out to sea on Saturday (May 24). We have about 900 nm from here to the coast of Portugal and than another 400 nm or so to our home port so it will take us at least a week of sailing till the next real internet access point. In the meantime, back to the short SMS updates.
